Ray Kass

Artist & Founder — Mt Lake Workshop

Trays
(2004 – 2006)

Kass has long been fascinated with making paintings that paint themselves. His watercolor trays are an excellent example of this; they are the residual of paints and trays that the artist was using to create his watercolors. Kass saves the trays, mounts them on panel clips protected by Lexan caps and exhibits them. As Kass himself has observed, “Sometimes it’s what you’re painting. Sometimes it’s your palette.”
